The standard I chose was found under the Computer Science standards for grade 5. The specific standard was to “demonstrate ways to avoid misuse of information.” I think to me, this means teaching students the necessary tools needed to fact check their sources that they use on the internet. I think I am prepared to implement this standard, because throughout college I have learned how to double check my sources, and cite trustworthy sources in order to make sure I am using correct information.
I think these resources on CPALMS can be used in my teaching because there is a wide range of resources, from assessment and testing, to educational games and tools. These resources are helpful because they give me checkmarks and an idea of how my students are doing according to the state requirements for their age and subject. I think the assessment resources can be used to help me create tests and quizzes. This website also provides lesson plans, which could be used to help me create a schedule with lesson plans much more efficiently than on my own.
It is extremely important for educators to be proficient in Internet searching because it is such a huge part of our daily life, as well as for our students. I think the skill that I will use the most moving forward is the advanced search on Google. This could be helpful if I am looking for specific content, or information on a specific topic for my students. An internet search tool that I did not see listed was Google scholar, which only shows results in peer reviewed and scientific articles.
Since I have had access to AI as a student in my later college years, AI is something that I feel like I have a lot of knowledge on as a future educator. I think that my initial thoughts on AI in the K-12 setting is that it could result in a huge lack of learning and original work. I know from my experience as a student, it can be very tempting to simply put your assignment into an AI generator. However, especially in the K-12 setting, students are learning basic knowledge and skills needed to successfully navigate the world as an adult. Use of AI to complete assignments and other tasks in early educational years could lead to a huge gap in learning.
